Solar: The Next Step

Once you have made your home as energy efficient as you can, your next step may be to incorporate solar energy into it. With the issues of rising energy costs and climate change coupled with technological improvements in solar equipment, solar energy is rapidly becoming a reliable, clean and renewable source of energy for residential use.

There are two main types of solar energy being used today:

1. Photovoltaic, or electric solar power and

2. thermal solar heating.

In either case, your first step is to have your home site analyzed to be sure that it is suitable for an investment in solar energy. This involves performing a shading analysis and examining possible mounting locations for the collectors and/or solar panels.
