Thermal Solar Heating

A Thermal Solar Heating system uses solar collectors, usually mounted on the roof, to heat water. The heating is done either directly or using a closed loop with a working fluid, such as antifreeze.

The heated water can then be used for your domestic hot water needs such as showers, washing clothes, etc.  A traditional water heater is typically used as a backup for cloudy days or high demand.  Larger systems can actually provide much of the heat for the house as well.

Domestic Hot Water can be up to 20% or more of your energy cost. A solar hot water system can substantially reduce or eliminate this part of your bill. Thermal solar systems usually have a short payback period of one to four years.

There are both Federal and State tax incentives that can reduce the up-front cost.
